What is IPL and what are the benefits

What is IPL?

IPL is an intense pulse light treatment for hair removal, pigmentation, rosacea and broken capillaries . During the treatment, the IPL head will heat the specific area to around 70 degrees for each shot.

What can you expect from a course of treatments?

For a course of IPL treatments, it would permanently reduce hair at least 85% with minimal discomfort. Depending on the area, a bikini, braz or underarm can be about 5 minutes of actual treatment time as opposed to a 10-20 minute wax. As the area being treated reduces in hair, the skin is also softened as the pores close up so is a double dose of treatment. For facial hair the recommended treatments are carried out every 3 weeks, for body hair every 4-6 week, and generally 8 treatments are required in the initial course. Please be aware the number of sessions and results can vary with each client, so we’ve listed some of the reasons for you below:
  • Hair grow in different stages so only 1/3 per treatment will actually penetrate to the root of the hair at any given time.
  • Hair may lay dormant during the time of treatment.
  • Hormone can affect the hair stimulation in the body at any given time.

Can everyone have IPL?

Your skin colour most definitely determines whether you are eligible to have IPL, and also the amount of sessions. As IPL is attracted to pigment, when your skin colour is too close to the hair colour, the machine cannot differentiate between the two. In which case the treatments cannot be carried out. However, if you have darker pigmented skin but still able to have treatments like myself, more treatments will be required as the machine cannot be turned up as high as someone with fair skin and dark hair. Fine, fair, downy hair normally found on the side of the face, blonde/red/grey hair etc. are not treatable on all machines, so please book in for a complimentary consult.

After treatment has started?

Once treatment have started, a minimum SPF 30+ sunblock must be used wherever the treatment is carried out and no exposure to the sun, sunbed or exercise for at least 48 hours.

What else can IPL do?

IPL can also be used to remove pigment on the face and body e.g. Sunspots, freckles to either greatly reduce or remove completely. The results and amount of treatments vary with each client, but again, sunblock must be used at all times.
Lets talk about Cellulite….

Lets talk about Cellulite….

What is cellulite?

You know those horrible bumps that start appearing under your skin and it begins to look like cottage cheese or orange peel. The worst part is that it can appear on your upper thighs and arms and some other places and it does not matter what size or shape you are, or even how old you are… you wake up one day and it’s there! Kind of like the aliens have landed and replaced your beautiful smooth skin. So here is how it works. Underlying fat deposits push through connective tissue causing it to pucker. Diet, exercise and water all have a role to play in how severe cellulite can appear.  Of course there is also the hormones in food and hereditary factors. If it is hereditary, it can still be reduced.

Microdermabrasion – What you need to know

Microdermabrasion – What you need to know

Everyone these days seems to be talking about microdermabrasion, peels or IPL. Do you feel a little left out when the topic comes up around the water cooler at work? Would you like to know more about them and why they’re so wildly popular? What are the benefits?  Who is it best  on?  What are the realistic expectations of each treatment? Can we really get these results? Last month we focused a little on ipl for you, this month we’ll look at Microdermabrasion. What is Microdermabrasion? Microdermabrasion is a skin resurfacing treatment that stimulates faster cell turn over and new collagen. It regenerates, revitalises, refreshes and radiates your skin for a younger looking you and perfect for Men and Women of all ages. At Shine we have an Advanced Diamond Tipped Microdermabrasion Machine so there are no messy crystals involved, and is also better for sensitive skin. The treatment works by a Diamond Head which removes the surface older layer of skin and has a suction head to remove the dead cells as they are lifted.  The results you receive from a microdermabrasion treatment are more impressive than anything you could ever do at home. Best results are carried out in a course of 6 treatments roughly 2 weeks apart. These are also known as the ‘lunchtime peel’ as they normally take 30minutes to carry out and leave you looking and feeling vibrant and fresh. An important thing to remember after this treatment, is that although the dead skin cells have been removed which is fantastic, some of your protection has been removed so sunscreen after treatments and stay out of the sun for a few days post microdermabrasion. The treatment is not suitable for anyone with sunburn, or who have had Dysport, Botox or Fillers of any sort for 72hours prior to treatment. The normal price per treatment is $110, however this month we are offering them for only $85. Book in for a skin consultation with Charlotte to discuss benefits, desired results, how many treatments are required and how much improvement you can expect to see with each treatment.
Eyelash Perm and Tint

Eyelash Perm and Tint

Eyelash perming is a pain free and simple process which can be carried out in your lunch break so no down time. We start with a cleanse around the eye area to remove any traces of makeup, then use a pre-perm solution to remove any oils. There are various sizes of adhesive perming rods to suit nearly everyones length of lashes, so we measure the right one for you and apply them to your eyelids to curl your lashes onto. This may sound a little odd but it is the same feeling as the old lash curlers you push your lashes into and held forever until you thought they would be curly enough. Once all of the lashes are ready, we apply a special perming solution to the lashes and wait for the required time which can vary with each client. During this time we’ll be giving you a scalp or hand massage to keep you relaxed. When its ready to come off, the setting solution is applied and its another massage for you…doesnt get any better than that! Once the setting solution is ready to come off, we remove the rods using wet pads and water and the rods roll straight off. However, to really set of the finish, a lash tint is just perfect to highlight those now fabulously curly lashes which last 2-3 months. This treatment will make your eyes look more open, fresh and revitalised.
